The plot of the movie
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is a 2023 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Nia Vardalos, who also reprises her role as Toula. The film is the third instalment in the My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise and stars John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, Elena Kampouris, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone, Lainie Kazan, and Andrea Martin.
The plot of the film centres on the death of Gus Portokalos, the family patriarch, and the Portokalos family's journey to Greece for a reunion in his hometown of Vrisi. Toula, Gus's daughter, attempts to locate her father's childhood friends to fulfil his wish of having his journal—containing his life story—handed over to them. The family is invited to Vrisi by Victory, a distant relative and the town's mayor, under the guise of a family reunion. Upon their arrival, they discover that the village is nearly abandoned and that Victory's true intention is to have the Portokaloses revive the village.
The family goes sightseeing and visits Gus's childhood home, where they meet Alexandra, Gus's old flame. The following day, Toula searches for Gus's friends in a nearby town but is unsuccessful and ends up getting drunk on ouzo. Meanwhile, Ian, Toula's husband, befriends a monk who possesses information about everyone's activities in the village, and Nick, Toula's brother, searches for the village's oldest tree. At dinner, the family meets Peter, Alexandra's son and Gus's unknown son, as well as his grandson Christos, and Alexandra's assistant Qamar.
Christos and Qamar, who are secretly betrothed, take Paris, Toula and Ian's college-age daughter, and Aristotle, her college-mate and Victory's assistant, to a club. The next day, Toula informs her family about Peter but continues to struggle to locate Gus's friends. With the help of a list provided by the monk, Nikki and Angelo, Toula's cousins, are able to locate and bring back Gus's friends.
The family also learns about Christos and Qamar's engagement, as well as Paris's academic probation. Peter and Alexandra disapprove, but the younger generation rejects external interference, opting to address their issues independently. Eventually, Peter and Alexandra come to terms with the relationship, and Victory recognises the potential of a wedding to revitalise the village.
In a joyous celebration, Qamar's family joins them for her wedding to Christos. Paris opens up about her split with Aristotle, and Toula, Nick, and Peter privately scatter Gus's ashes around the village's oldest tree. Toula and Nick decide to bring Peter back to America with them as part of the family.
