In season 13, April starts seeing Matthew again, and their relationship is made public when they are involved in a car accident where April almost dies of hypothermia. In the season finale, April and Matthew get married, and she resigns from the hospital to provide medical care for the homeless communities in Seattle, something she and Matthew had been doing together on a voluntary basis. In season 17, it is revealed that April has separated from Matthew.
