The bride, Catherine Middleton, arrived soon after, making the journey to the Abbey from the nearby Goring Hotel, close to Buckingham Palace. The marriage took place in the Sacrarium upon the beautiful Cosmati Pavement, a rare mosaic pavement laid in 1260. The congregation sang the hymn 'Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer', a powerful and much-loved Welsh hymn often sung at State occasions. The vows were solemnized by the Archbishop, with Prince William and Catherine exchanging rings. The Archbishop joined their right hands and said: "Those whom God hath joined together let no man put asunder."

The congregation then sang another popular hymn at English weddings, 'Love Divine, All Loves Excelling'. This was followed by the Lesson, Romans 12: 1, 2, 9-18, read by James Middleton, Catherine's younger brother. The Choirs then sang 'This is the Day', a new anthem commissioned for the service by celebrated composer and conductor John Rutter. The Right Reverend and Right Honourable Dr. Richard Chartres, then Bishop of London and Dean of Her Majesty's Chapels Royal, gave the Address, quoting St Catherine of Siena: "Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire."

The service continued with the singing of 'Jerusalem' by Hubert Parry, arranged by Edward Elgar. The Dean then pronounced the blessing, after which the congregation sang the National Anthem, accompanied by the Fanfare Team from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. The newlyweds then signed the Marriage Registers, the only part of the ceremony not shown on television. The Choirs, accompanied by the London Chamber Orchestra, sang 'Blest Pair of Sirens' by Parry as the couple prepared to leave the Abbey.

The newly-weds departed to the sound of the Abbey bells and cheers from the crowds. A full peal of 5,000 changes was rung by the Abbey's Company of Ringers, lasting three hours. The couple then travelled to Buckingham Palace, followed by Prince Harry, Pippa Middleton, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Mr and Mrs Middleton, The Queen, and The Duke of Edinburgh. The couple appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, sharing a kiss or two to the delight of the crowd.

The Archbishop of Canterbury married them

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, married Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
