One night, Eggsy and his friends went to a pub and drank some beer. As they left, they stole the leader of a group of thugs' luxury car and were chased by the police. After crashing the car, Eggsy was arrested. During the interrogation, the police tried to convince him to give up the names of his friends, but he refused, even when threatened with jail time. Instead, he asked to make a phone call and dialled the number on the back of the medal that Harry had given him. This led to his release.

Eggsy's father, Lee Unwin, was a spy in training for the top-secret organisation Kingsman. He was killed in 1997 while on a mission in the Middle East, sacrificing himself to save the other Kingsmen.
