Harry And Meghan's Wedding Color Scheme

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding colours were white and gold, with off-white, cream and gold tones. The wedding, which took place on 19 May 2018, was a fairytale ceremony held at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. The bride's bouquet featured an all-white posy of flowers, including forget-me-nots, sweet pea, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia. The wedding dress

Waight Keller and Meghan had several meetings to discuss the design of the dress. The final creation featured six delicately placed seams that flowed to the back of the gown, ending in a 9-foot-long train. The three-quarter-length sleeves and open bateau neckline were the focal points of the dress. The pure white hue and delicate fabric required extra care, with the embroiderers washing their hands every 30 minutes to keep the veil immaculate.

The silk veil was 16 feet long and was embroidered with 55 flowers, representing the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, as well as Wintersweet, which grows in front of Nottingham Cottage, and the California Poppy, the state flower of California, Meghan's home state. The veil was secured by a diamond bandeau tiara, made in 1932 for Queen Mary, and loaned to Meghan by Queen Elizabeth II.

Meghan's "something blue" was also hidden in her veil—a piece of fabric from her very first date with Prince Harry. Embroidered crops of wheat, symbolising love and charity, were placed at the front of the veil.

The shoes were also custom-made by Givenchy and featured a pointed couture design. Meghan's hair was styled with a "face-framing fringe tucked behind her ears" by Serge Normant, and her makeup was done by her longtime friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin, who created a natural look with "a soft brown eyeshadow" and minimal makeup on the face. Her nails were painted in a "neutral pink-y beige" shade for the ceremony.

The flowers and decor

The couple's wedding venue, St. George's Chapel, was adorned with classic arrangements of larger-than-life florals. The use of a mix of round and long tables, draped with beautiful white linen, and set with gold-rimmed plates and glassware, added to the regal atmosphere.

Meghan's bridal bouquet, also designed by Philippa Craddock, included forget-me-nots, sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine, and astrantia. It also included a sprig of myrtle, following a royal tradition. Prince Harry handpicked the forget-me-nots in honour of his late mother, Princess Diana.

The cake

The wedding cake was a masterpiece created by London-based baker Claire Ptak, owner of Violet Cakes in East London. The cake broke with tradition, as royal wedding cakes are typically fruit cakes. Instead, inspired by their spring wedding date, the couple chose a lemon and elderflower flavour. The elderflower cordial used in the cake was made from flowers harvested at one of Queen Elizabeth's private homes, a nod to her majesty. The cake was covered in swiss meringue buttercream and adorned with 150 fresh flowers, mostly British peonies and roses, and green foliage.

There was also almost a disaster with the cake on the morning of the wedding. Ptak asked her team to cut the slices while they were still cold and then let them sit out to reach room temperature. However, there was a miscommunication, and the slices were put back into the fridge. The team had to quickly find a solution to get the cakes to room temperature before serving, and they were ultimately served at the perfect temperature.

Harry and Meghan cut their wedding cakes during their daytime reception, using a ceremonial saber.

The invitations

The wedding itself was a break with tradition, as royal weddings typically take place during the week, but Harry and Meghan's nuptials were held on a Saturday. The invitations were not the only aspect of the wedding planning that broke with royal tradition. The wedding cake, for example, was not the traditional fruitcake but instead a lemon sponge cake with elderflower syrup, Amalfi lemon curd, and a Swiss meringue buttercream topping infused with elderflower.

Harry chose to wear a Blues and Royals frock coat uniform for the wedding. He shared that he chose the frock coat as a uniform with the Queen's permission because he thinks it is one of the smartest household cavalry uniforms. He also wore the rank of major with the star of the Royal Victorian Order, of which he is a Knight Commander, along with several other medals.

Meghan's wedding dress was designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller under the fashion house Givenchy. It was made of double-bonded silk cady cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza and had a boat neckline, long sleeves, and a sweeping train.
