Waight Keller, who is British, was the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy. Markle chose to work with her for her "timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour". The dress featured a graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully framed the shoulders and emphasised Markle's slender waist. The slim three-quarter sleeves added a note of refined modernity. The sweeping train added a sense of drama to the occasion.

The dress was made of exclusive double-bonded silk cady material, with the pure white hue and delicate fabric requiring extra-special care. The gown's embroiderers had to wash their hands every 30 minutes. "It was a lot of work," Waight Keller said. "There were many people involved in the workmanship, and obviously, it took an enormous amount of hours to do it."

Waight Keller also designed Markle's 15-foot veil, which featured flora from each of the 53 Commonwealth countries, as well as a California Poppy to symbolise her place of birth.

Ptak and her team spent five days making the cake in the kitchens of Buckingham Palace. The cake was comprised of multiple tiers, with two single-tiered cakes and one two-tiered cake, displayed on ornate gold stands from the royal family's collection. The cake was frosted with Swiss meringue buttercream and decorated with 150 fresh flowers, including British peonies and roses.

The cake was estimated to have cost $70,000.
