Paul McCartney married for the third time on 9 October 2011, to American heiress Nancy Shevell. The wedding took place at the same venue where he married his first wife, Linda Eastman, in 1969—the Marylebone Register Office in London.
The couple first met in 2007 while staying in their respective homes in the Hamptons. Shevell is a New York-based businesswoman and breast cancer survivor who founded a cancer resource center in the Hamptons. She is also a board member of New York's transportation authority and vice-president of her family's haulage firm.

The couple first met in May 1967 at the Bag O' Nails nightclub in London's Soho district. Eastman, a photographer, was in London on assignment, shooting photos for a book titled 'Rock and Other Four-Letter Words'. And so I said, 'Oh, sorry. Hi. How are you? How're you doing?' I introduced myself and said, 'We're going on to another club after this. Would you like to join us?' That was my big pulling line!"
McCartney proposed to Eastman after dating for a year, but the wedding almost didn't happen as the couple had a significant argument the night before. Despite this, the couple went ahead with the wedding, with McCartney's brother Mike as the best man. The witnesses to the wedding were Mike, the Beatles' assistant Mal Evans, and Eastman's daughter, Heather, whom McCartney would formally adopt after the wedding.
The couple went on to have three children together: Mary, Stella, and James, and McCartney credits Eastman for helping him through a dark time after the breakup of the Beatles. Eastman continued her career as a photographer and was also an animal rights activist, writing several vegetarian cookbooks and founding the Linda McCartney Foods company with McCartney.
