Markle first met with Waight Keller in mid-December, just a month after her engagement to Prince Harry was announced. She had been touring the U.K. with Harry for royal engagements and had to be reminded by her best friend and bridal expert, Jessica Mulroney, that she needed to start looking for a wedding dress designer. Markle knew exactly what she was looking for: modern, elegant, timeless, and appropriate. The train was short, and the 16.4-foot silk tulle veil was hand-embroidered with flora representing the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. The dress stood in contrast to recent royal wedding dresses, which have tended towards more complex designs.
