The Wedding Singer is an American romantic comedy film released in 1998. The film is set in 1985 in Ridgefield, New Jersey, and stars Adam Sandler as wedding singer Robbie Hart, alongside Drew Barrymore as Julia, a waitress.
Robbie Hart is a wedding singer whose own wedding to his fiancée Linda is approaching. However, on their wedding day, Linda leaves Robbie at the altar. Devastated, Robbie sinks into a depression, ruining every wedding he sings at. He finds consolation in his friendship with Julia, a waitress at the wedding receptions and bar mitzvahs where he performs. Julia is engaged to a wealthy Wall Street broker named Glenn, and she asks Robbie to help her plan her upcoming wedding. Despite Robbie and Julia's growing feelings for each other, a series of miscommunications lead them away from each other. Robbie then tries to figure out how to make Julia realise that her fiancé is not right for her.
The film was later adapted into a stage musical of the same name, debuting on Broadway in April 2006.
