Harry's Wedding Tribute To Diana

Prince Harry honoured his late mother, Princess Diana, in several ways on his wedding day. His wife's bouquet featured forget-me-nots, which were Diana's favourite flowers, and he picked the flowers himself from the couple's private garden. Flowers laid at Diana's grave

Prince Harry has honoured his mother, Princess Diana, by arranging for flowers to be laid at her grave on several occasions. On the 25th anniversary of her death, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, visited Princess Diana's grave at her childhood home, Althorp, in Northamptonshire. They rowed to the island where she is buried, and Harry placed flowers on the grave. Harry and Meghan also visited the grave in 2022, the week that Queen Elizabeth died.

Harry has also arranged for flowers to be laid at his mother's grave on Mother's Day in the UK, which is known as "Mothering Sunday". In 2021, he organised for flowers to be placed at Princess Diana's grave in Althorp, as he lives in California and was unable to visit in person.

Princess Diana's grave is on an island within the grounds of Althorp Park, the Spencer family home for centuries. The island is in an ornamental lake known as The Round Oval, and a path with thirty-six oak trees, marking each year of her life, leads to it. The burial party was provided by the 2nd Battalion, The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires), who carried the Princess across to the island and laid her to rest.

Meghan's bouquet included forget-me-nots

Meghan Markle's wedding bouquet included a touching tribute to Prince Harry's late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The bouquet featured forget-me-nots, which were Diana's favourite flowers.

Harry hand-picked some of the blooms himself from the couple's private garden at Kensington Palace. Meghan's bouquet also included scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia, and sprigs of myrtle, secured with a naturally dyed, raw silk ribbon.

Harry has used the forget-me-not symbol in reference to his mother before. Sentebale, the children's charity he co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, also pays tribute to Diana. The name means "forget-me-not" in Sesotho, the official language of Lesotho.

Harry and Meghan picked forget-me-nots from the palace in memory of Harry's mother. The forget-me-not is a gorgeous cut flower that bees love, and it naturalises easily, producing masses of small, yet striking blooms.

Meghan wore Diana's ring

A unique floral display in St. George's Chapel

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding ceremony was held on 19 May 2018 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. The floral display for the royal wedding was designed by Philippa Craddock, who created a unique arrangement filled with branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as peonies, foxgloves, and white garden roses—Princess Diana's favourite flower.

An arch of white roses greeted guests entering the chapel through the West Door, while the front of the organ loft was adorned with foliage, roses, white peonies and other white blooms. The display also featured two large arrangements on either side of the High Altar. The West and South Doors were surrounded with flowers and greenery, and the structure separating the chapel's nave and quire was outlined with extravagant white-and-green garlands.

The white rose was chosen as a subtle tribute to Princess Diana, as it was her favourite flower and is featured in The White Garden at Kensington Palace. The white rose is also symbolically associated with innocence, wistfulness, virtue, and purity.

The display included foxgloves, a quintessential British wildflower steeped in old English folklore and associated with fairies and foxes. The flower symbolises confidence and ambition and is also used therapeutically to regulate fast or irregular heartbeats.

The flowers used in the display were sourced locally, with many coming from Windsor Great Park.

Harry's wedding band

Prince Harry's wedding band was crafted from platinum. The wedding rings were created by Cleave and Company, with Markle's ring being made from Welsh gold.

Harry's choice of wedding band was not the only way he honoured his late mother, Princess Diana, on his wedding day. Forget-me-nots, which were Diana's favourite flowers, were included in Markle's bouquet, picked by Harry himself. The couple also made sure to include white garden roses, another of Diana's favourites, in a unique floral display in St. George's Chapel.
